The Gamers: Dorkness Rising *****
I gave this movie 5 out of 5 stars, but only because I myself am a gamer. If you are a gamer, then I HIGHLY recommend this movie. I strongly recommend this movie to those that know gamers. And suggest that if you are not a gamer or don’t know any gamers to simply skip this movie all together.
This has simply been the best movie I’ve seen in YEARS because it really hit me on a personal level. The lead character (Kevin) is a Dungeon Master trying to get his players to run through a campaign that he is trying to to work out so he can get it published. The story itself follows the group through the trials and tribulations of the players as they work out the details of the game.
The gaming bits are played out in live action (but not in a LARP style) mixed in with the table talk that goes on throughout any table top game.
I think that had TSR (now Wizards of the Coast) would have done the Dungeons & Dragons movie in this style it would have faired FAR better then it did, as this movie is truly what playing D&D is all about.
Again, I give it all five stars!
