Good friday (Jesus Died)

Friday, April 6th, 2007

I woke with start this morning at 7:28 which ruined any chance of sleeping in any further. Why? Because it is Friday and I generally get up with the alarm at 6:30, and Amanda is generally here by 7:15. But today is Good Friday (I guess because Jesus Died) and I turned the alarm off last night and Cyndi and Amanda have the day off of work.

I tried to sleep again but just could not, so I stayed in bed for a half hour snuggled up close to the one I love more then anything. It was nice waking up with her next to me and not needing to lean over an smack the snooze button. It was nice snuggling up to her for a while before needing to crawl out of bed due to getting restless.

Now today is the start of a three day weekend, and I should be outside right now uncovering the garden, but it’s WAY TO CHILLY for that so I’ll be waiting another hour or three. Mean while I’ll be sitting here looking over my several websites and pondering my possibilities of making more.

More? Heh, yeah, I was thinking of starting one for my grandson. So he could “blog” his days away and talk about how fun it is to be babysat by me ;) I wonder what type of nice market I could pull in from that one… heh, it’s certainly has to have better potentials then this blog. I mean who really cares about some middle aged guy that baby sits (see, it’s all in the perspective).

At any rate, it’s good Friday, and it’s a day of celebration (because Jesus Died). Now if only it would warm up enough for a picnic.

Blackberry Winter

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Blackberry winter: Generally the second cold-snap of the year (the first cold-snap is Dogwood winter). This is when the average temperature drops low enough to generally have a day or three of frost. It also means that many a farmer and gardener has a hell of a week. The name Blackberry winter comes from the fact that teh Black Berries will be blooming shortly after it gets warm again.

This is my hell of a week!

Yesterday Cyndi and I had to head out to the garden with 20 milk jugs that I cut the bottoms off of so that we could cover up the plants. We didn’t have enough jugs so anything that could be used was. Bags, coffee cans, unused planters, a watering can, blankets propped up with sticks, and last but not least we used this HUGE piece of plastic that took both of us to drag to cover about a quarter of the garden.

When we woke up this morning we headed out to pull the plastic off, and once the sun breaks I’ll be heading out to uncover everything else. Of course this evening we will need to go back out to cover it all back up again. *sigh*

But hey, we’ll have out lettuce for salads, tomatoes for sketti, beets for whatever Cyndi uses those for, strawberries for chocolate dipping, fig trees, maybe potatoes, peas, green beans, and many many other wonderful things that mountain folk plant in their gardens.

All this work is still cheaper then buying all we’ll get in the store.

Well, it’s 8:30, the sun is shining, and the chickens are hungry… I’m off to act like I actually know how to be a farm boy ;)

Post Whoring at the Point

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

I’m a member at Digital Point forums and have noticed that they have rules that seem a bit loopy and onesided. They have no post whoring rules in effect and there are posts after posts with no content, and I mean NO CONTENT. Such as PM SENT! Like the nav bar does not show that. Post counts at this place are important, as if you have a high enough count you can see your signature links, avatar, and even your location. I’m seriously beginning to think I may start whoring my posts so I can make $2.99 a month *boggle* Actually, I’d like to see their staff increased 20 fold to help put a stop to such a thing.

At Digital point forums I’ve found that the rules are secondary once you’ve reached 100 posts. While I see name after name in red (banned) I’ve also noticed that there are many things which are seemingly simply ignored. Like Post Whoring for instance… Such a thing is clearly against the rules and I see some folks posting they got infractions for it. But I see more and more threads with “Thank you” or “PM SENT!” in them which does nothing but increase ones post count. And on a webmaster forum, just like the web Content is KING. With 2000 posts and 10 posts a day you can sell your signature links for a nice chunck of change. Currently, a link in a sig on a forum with such a high PR offers a lot of Google juice. You can also sell your Avatar and even your location field (as it’s seen in the post-bit). These are for product recognition rather then linkage. Such sales are generally aimed at the population of the forum (webmasters at the DP).

I don’t know, but it’s all really silly, and I think there should likely be a massive crackdown on such a thing…this includes a mass wipe of “PR UPDATE” threads which have infested the Google forum cockroaches in a dirty kitchen.

I’ve learned a lot at Digital Point, but I’m starting to get annoyed at the seemingly lopsided rules…

I’m sick of this

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

Well, I guess not this, its more like I’m just sick. But not two bad I guess, certainly not like Cyndi was on Friday. I have a sore throat, a dull headache, and had a rather soft BM this morning…which I’m actually hoping was the WONDERFUL chili that Cyndi made two days ago.
Shannon was seemingly ILL yesterday, and Perrin certainly showed signsof being less then chipper as well. I’m hoping today is just a bad day though because I’ve got some things that need doing!

We are heading into our blackberry winter which means the berries will be blooming soon (YAY) but it also means that we need to cover like 100 plants in the garden with only 50 things to cover them with. This needs to be done & undone daily for the next three days. I guess this evening Cyndi & I will need to get inventive about how he’ll go about this.

Cyndi and I went out to memories yesterday, which, as always, was nice. We talked about our ADF protogrove and what directions we’ll be taking it. We also talked about standardizing rituals for public display, which I think is actually a grand plan, at lest on paper ;) (even off paper, as it’ll save me from memorizing 8 rituals).

Overall I think the week will be a good one, regardless of sickness or frost though, and I think it’s important to keep a positive outlook on life ;)

Weekend of Nothing

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Great weekend, but it was not great like the last several weekends. This time around it was simply fantastic not doing much of anything except mowing the yard Friday. The only down side to the weekend was that Cyndi had to work so I didn’t get the pleasure of sleeping with her…but I did get a chance to know her better,  but that story is for a different type of blog ;)

With two open days of doing nothing pretty much nothing means that I’ll need to spend the next few evenings working a bit harder then what normal weekdays are. I need to work in the flower beds and need to fix one trellis & build another… but these are lazy things so I’m not worried (though I guess it needs to stop raining).
