Leading a magickal life can sometimes lead to living a mundane life that needs far too much explaining. If you are not going all out with your magick and would like to keep the majority of your occult things ‘hidden’ here are a few tips…

Herbs and Spices:

Keep your herbs in the kitchen on your “spice rack” if you cook some fancy meals now and again very few people will question why that section of your cupboard is packed full, though I do suggest that you keep the ones that are not all that wise to cook with in the back, as it would a bit hard to explain why your belladonna is next to your allspice.

Rock Collection:

Many people now-a-days collect stones, feel free to be one of them! However, it may help if you know not only their vibration levels, but also a few mundane facts about them (like where they came from, or their fancy Latin names)

Transforming the library:

Many of the used bookstores have cheap books, and some even have free bins. Grab some of the drabber titles and remove the covers to them. Now take the covers and put over your own occult collection. This should keep most people from even bothering to ask if they can borrow them.

You can mix in astrology books with astrology books with little effort without much explaining. Likewise, a handful of ceremonial books can be placed next to other biblical text without much cause for alarm. Numerology books could also pass for math books if you happen to have the option to pull that one off.

Reference books also tend to not warrant much concern by the average scanning of a bookshelf. Though you will need to pay attention to the book titles as an encyclopedia of herbs can get stuck in with cookbooks, but a “magickal encyclopedia” likely can not.

Books behind books are another method if you have deep enough shelves to allow it. If that is not an option the top (or bottom) of your closet, or inside of a chest is a good place to stash such literary works.

I’d try to stay away from putting your books at a friends house though, as that is just a bad idea which can lead to ‘whose book is who’s”.

Your magickal journals can often be placed in the open as well, assuming they are not bound in human flesh or adorned with magickal writing.

Aromatherapy and candles:

A candle collection is not going to raise many questions, and if it does make sure you call up the person asking the next time there is a power outage.

Incense and oils can be explained away through Aromatherapy or simply because “they smell nice” as many people use such things that have little or nothing to do on an esoteric level. However, I suggest that your house does not smell like an incense factory, as people may start to think you are smoking pot…
Tarot, runes, and fortunetelling:

Replace your tarot deck with playing cards, or hide it as per the library tips above.

Dice and Dominoes make fine replacements for such things as Runes, and in many cases are just as effective.
Other forms of Divination:
One can use a needle and thread as a pendulum rather then a stone on a chain, but if you simply must use the latter, place it with your “rock collection” and say you have no idea what it’s for and that you simply liked the pretty pointy stone.

A bowl with a few drops of ink can make a workable black mirror.

Ebooks and the computer:
Technomancy is alive and well when it comes to hiding things. One can pick up a thumb drive pretty cheap from most stores these days. The thumb drive is easily hidden, and can hold hundreds of online resources to be used offline.

Ritual Tools:
Mundane items as seen in previous tips can be used in magick, your tools are no exception. Kitchen knives for the Athame for instance, and while you are in the kitchen, feel free to put that mortal and pedestal up in your herb shelf.

A bell on the mantel will not raise many questions assuming it does not have pagan symbology all over it.

Hang that sword up on your wall, if you have a matching shield people will just think you are into Renaissance Faires. Staves can be placed next to the front door to be called a “walking stick” to your friends and family.

Jewelry (rings, necklaces, pendants, pentacles, etc) can be placed in your jewelry box, as few people look there unless they are planning to rob you.

Altar clothes in your linen cabinet, and robes in your closet are sometimes nice hiding places, as often times the best place to hide something is out in the open…

Witchcraft (in the general sense) seems to be alive and well within Mother Russia! Associated Press Reports: Russia licenses faith healers

Faith based magick practitioners have a chance to become licensed (legit?) which is in my opinion simply super! There are other countries that do this as well, but I’ve not researched much into it. Though I do think that if it happened in the US it would (or at least could be) a great thing, though they would need to hold all ‘faiths’ equal in such matters, including the Christian church.

For the past two years, the Federal Health Service has been issuing licenses to practitioners of what it calls “traditional medicine,” meaning anything from the use of herbal treatments to the manipulation of “auras.” His claims buttressed by officialdom, Fadkin charges patients 3,500 rubles ($150) per session.

130 people in the Moscow area have passed a voluntary government test. Currently only people within Moscow can even take the test, but they are pushing to expand it throughout Russia.

The program includes a background check, a scan of electrical activity in the brain and a committee review of the results. The agency charges applicants 10,000 rubles ($428) for the tests.

The article does go into some bad aspects of fake healers…but hey, at least once country is saying “hey, these guys MIGHT be real” so bully for them!

I am talking about true 100% pure unadulterated, no thought of reward, no worry about self sacrifice, no choice of who was chosen for the act of kindness, it was done because this person was a minority, or family, or poor, or sick or anything…..just a plain fucking act of kindness in which one does what their heart leads them to do with no thought other than this should be done and I give my word it will be done and even if death takes my hand it will be done because it should be. Humans are the most self centered, uncaring creatures on the face of this vast Earth. Other animals have no hidden agenda or ulterior motive. We are cruel, uncaring, evil and most work through premeditated acts of selfish agendas and could care less the outcome of their actions.

It does not exist. Kindness is a façade we have developed to boost our ego or secretly control the victim of our kind act.

People are cruel, possibly even born that way. We have lived with evil acts for so long they have now become the norm and are handed down to our children. We teach them to be manipulative, cruel, greedy, mean. Even someone who considers themselves to be a “true Christian” and claims they are showing true kindness by volunteering, donating items to the needy, giving money to the poor……this is NOT pure kindness my friends. It is a security blanket to pad their ticket to their heaven, hoping their God is watching them hand that dollar to the homeless man on the street.

True kindness is extinct. Humans have evolved into the most cruel, ruthless creatures in existence and the Gods are fast giving up on us. We are wasteful, nasty, hurtful, cold hearted creatures who destroy everything we touch. To deny that is to fall deeper into the ridiculous lies that we force ourselves to live by.

Only when my ashes become fertilizer for a tree will I ever become pure and true to myself. Not because I think there will be a hidden reward for me in the end, not because I will be taken to some ridiculous heaven to see my Mam-maw again, not because God will make me some special creature to run free with other special creatures with no pain or tears, not because something good will happen to me for my own sacrifice….just because I do not desire to be anything other than the dirt beneath us and as birds sit in the tree and shit on my ashes it will be a well deserving event to pay me back for being a member of the human race. WE ARE ALL SHIT!

I may be changing the format of this blog again as my life has taken a huge turn. I now live off the grid in a small house which Cyndi and I have built ourselves. I do have partial net access while I am at my Mothers, but the time here is very limited so I have been focusing on other things (like the forums I am a part of).

I am unsure whether or not I’ll start updating this blog or my livejournal either way though the posts will certainly not be as often as they once were.

I have started a homesteading site, though it’s not got much in the way of content just yet. However, Cyndi and myself will start updating that with back-dated posts so that you all can see what all we have been through in the last three months or so.

If I do have time I’ll post some pagan/occult news here though, it’s just I barely have time for such things these days.

I found this on some Taiwan news site, so I’m not sure it’s all that accurate, but thought it was worthy of being shared none the less…

On March 1st, 1692, three women were brought before local magistrates in Salem, Massachusetts, accused of witchcraft. This marked the beginning of the infamous Salem witch trials.

In other witchcraft history…

When the battleship Barham was torpedoed by the Germans in November 1941, with the loss of over 800 lives, the Admiralty delayed announcing the news to maintain morale.
But the secrecy was ended within a few days when medium Helen Duncan told a couple during a seance that their son, a sailor on the ship, had appeared from the spirit world to tell them it had sunk. (source)

Which makes me wonder why, if Witchcraft works, why all the fear? Maybe it’s jealousy over the fact that so many prayers from God go unanswered, those that pray lash out at those who follow different gods that do answer prayer. Blah, but I’m not here to sound bitter, just trying to spread some historical knowledge.

In other witchy news, I found this…

Since 2003, 35 pits at the site in a valley near Truro have been excavated containing swan pelts, dead magpies, unhatched eggs, quartz pebbles, human hair, fingernails and part of an iron cauldron.

The finds have been dated to the 1640s, a period of turmoil in England when Cromwellian Puritans destroyed any links to pre-Christian pagan England. It was also a period when witchcraft attracted the death sentence.

So it seems, that no matter how hard society tries, witches, pagans, and magicians will be around, in the open, hidden, or what have you. Maybe in a hundred years my alter out back will be found and I’ll get an article about me written, then again, if my alter is found in a hundred years it’ll look like a brick and two patio stones stacked up, lol, so I guess that’ll likely not happen… but what about your altar?

A few weeks ago the Polish Catholic Church announced that it would be opening ‘exorcism clinics’ to combat the rising cases of possession. News from Australia shows that priests are working over time to help the swelling cases of demonic involvement in peoples lives. Throughout other parts of Europe Demons are invading the minds of the populous, and in the US priests are starting to become trained to fight such things in growing numbers. In fact, a recent survey shows that one in ten Catholics have been, or have witnessed an exorcism.

Is this the work of the new Pope, or are the satanic forces finally standing up to claim what is theirs?

Personally, I think it may be hype inspired by the Vatican combined with a growing fad of blaming ones problems on demons.

Thousands of years ago, there was no mental illness. Though there were demons, and those demons would invade the minds of the devout. The only cure for such an invasion would be to visit a priest of whatever faith you were and have it banished. According to record, such practices cured many individuals… CURED! Today of course, we use pills to suppress such things, or psychiatry to circumvent their effects….though today, without taking your medications, there is no cure….until now!

Now, don’t take cleansing herbs to cure what ails you, take FDA approved medications. Natural cures are the work of the devil! And now it seems that medications may also be a thing of the past, as people are flocking to the church to cure their mental quirks. Is this a reversal of technological advances in medicine, or is it a return to doing what actually works? I guess only time may tell…

The Satanic Bible says that “Satan is the best friend the church ever had” and that is once again proving true. With the rising numbers of people leaving the church for nature religions, or alternative faiths, maybe this is just what the Pope needs to once again gain his foothold on the world. If the power of God can cure you of your personal demons, you may be more inclined to go to church on more occasions then just Easter and Christmas…something that will once again get the armchair Christian to keep the faith.

With luck, it’ll lead to other ancient cures, like taking herbs rather then synthetic drugs that you can not pronounce.

There is a difference between magic and magick and that distinction was brought about by Aleister Crowley when he added the K to the end of the more traditional spelling. Magick without the K now, for the better part denotes stage magic and parlor tricks, though the two words are still rather interchangeable. Witchcraft gets no such separation, though I’d bet many-a-Wiccan would love for there to be one.

I watch the web for the term “witchcraft” and often search news sites for current events that revolve around the word. Excluding the gaming circles I find there is a 50/50 mix between the more standard “Wiccan” witchcraft and the standard practice of magick in general.

During the ‘burning times’ any suspect of practicing magick was considered Witchcraft, and even today, such generalizations still hold pretty true. Countries from around the world have witchcraft laws which encompass any act of magick or spell casting.

Even the dictionary gives a broad definition, though takes it a step further by saying that it’s an evil act, and again, I bet many a witch would disagree. Webster says that Witches even talk to the devil, though with all of the self proclaimed witches that I know, not one of them has bothered with such Christian trappings such as Satan or even demons. Good spirits and bad spirits yes, but the devil, well, not unless they also call upon God, and he certainly has no place in the tenants of most witches.

I think that when Wicca was brought about they picked too broad of a term. A word all too often associated with evil. A title that has simply caused too much controversy and that has caused more problems, then solutions.

Should the “good witches” of the western world keep such a title? I really don’t know, but I can say that I rarely use the word for fear of being stoned (with rocks silly) or worse, burned at the stake. I would honestly rather be called a “Wizard” and get snickered at because of the popularity of Harry Potter. Or a Mage and get poked fun of because of Dungeons And Dragons. At least those words don’t hurt as much…

I recently started a thread on Occult Corpus on Recession and the price of Vegetables, and while that thread was posted in the Homesteading forum there are magickal applications which can and do apply to the mindset of gardening, especially in times like these.

I am grateful now, more then ever, that I have moved out of the big city to live a simple life here with Cyndi. In the city there was really no option for a garden. There was no option for living off the land, there was no option for eating unprocessed food… but had times gotten much harder I may have been eating that cat food to make it through the next day.

The price of cat food is lower then buying canned human food. Likewise, it is now cheaper to by canned human food over making things from scratch. That fact is upsetting, but it’s also not an absolute fact. On can start a garden and off set much of the prices one finds in the grocery store.

Where does that leave me? Well, it leaves me appreciating that 85×60 foot garden out back just full of veggies. It leaves me with a taste for fresh eggs, and rooster meat. It leaves me with the money saved from not needing to waste gas on the next trip to the grocery store.

It also can go much deeper then your wallet. It can have a spiritual significance as well. By digging your hands into the earth, you can become one with the land. By planting seeds you become akin to the creator. By tending the plants you can provide, not only for yourself, but for the garden. By harvesting all that is sewn you not only save a few dollars, but you also have the fruits (or in ts case, veggies) of your labor.

If you have ever given a sacrifice to the greater spirits and they were happy, imagine the elation of using something you grew yourself! The rituals you use your own creations in will become more powerful, and the appreciation of such sacrifices by those you are offering too will also be seen in the final outcomes of your spells, prayers, and requests.

So whether or not you have a green thumb, plant something that you’ve grown, and you just may find you’ve grown spiritually as well.
